Description: The stages a community must go through before it becomes a true community.
"Based on his experience with community building workshops, Peck says that community building typically goes through four stages: Pseudocommunity: In the first stage, well-intentioned people try to demonstrate their ability to be friendly and sociable, but they do not really delve beneath the surface of each other's ideas or emotions. They use obvious generalities and mutually-established stereotypes in speech. Instead of conflict resolution, pseudocommunity involves conflict avoidance, which maintains the appearance or facade of true community. It also serves only to maintain positive emotions, instead of creating safe space for honesty and love through bad emotions as well. While they still remain in this phase, members will never really obtain evolution or change, as individuals or as a bunch. Chaos: The first step towards real positivity is, paradoxically, a period of negativity. Once the mutually-sustained facade of bonhomie is shed, negative emotions flood through: Members start to vent their mutual frustrations, annoyances, and differences. It is a chaotic stage but Peck describes it as a "beautiful chaos" because it is a sign of healthy growth. (This relates closely to Dabrowski's concept of Positive_Disintegration). Emptiness: In order to transcend the stage of "Chaos", members are forced to shed that which prevents real communication. Biases and prejudice, need for power and control, self-superiority, and other similar motives which are only mechanisms of self-validation and/or ego-protection, must yield to empathy, openness to vulnerability, attention, and trust. Hence this stage does not mean people should be "empty" of thoughts, desires, ideas or opinions. Rather, it refers to emptiness of all mental and emotional distortions which reduce one's ability to really share, listen to, and build on those thoughts, ideas, etc. It is often the hardest step in the four-level process, as it necessitates the release of patterns which people develop over time in a subconscious attempt to maintain self-worth and positive emotion. While this is therefore a stage of "Fana_(Sufism)" in a certain sense, it should be viewed not merely as a "death" but as a rebirth -- of one's true self at the individual level, and at the social level of the genuine and true Community. True community: Having worked through emptiness, the people in the community enter a place of complete empathy with one another. There is a great level of tacit understanding. People are able to relate to each other's feelings. Discussions, even when heated, never get sour, and motives are not questioned. A deeper and more sustainable level of happiness obtains between the members, which does not have to be forced. Even and perhaps especially when conflicts arise, it is understood that they are part of positive change."

"המשבר העולמי הוא שלב טבעי בהתפתחות המערכת העולמית. הוא הגיע כתוצאה משינוי הכללים הכלכליים, החברתיים, הפוליטיים והרוחניים, שהתרחש במעבר בין האלף הראשון לשני. המשבר הפיננסי-כלכלי העולמי של השנים 2008-2009 הוא שלב במשבר הגלובלי של המאה ה-20 וה-21. בבסיס הסדר העולמי החדש צריכים לעמוד בראש ובראשונה עקרונות מוסריים: הומאניות, אחריות חברתית, סולידריות כלל אנושית. ללא שמירה על עקרונות אלו, האנושות לא תצליח לעשות סדר בבית הגלובלי שלה ולבנות מערכת יחסים חדשה ויציבה בין המדינות והעמים על פני כדור הארץ. גילוי תופעת הגלובליזציה מכניס תיקונים משמעותיים בתוכן החינוך ובמטרותיו. מדובר בשינוי עקרוני של תודעת האנשים, בהבנה כללית ושלמה של המציאות הטבעית והחברתית. התפתחות החברה המודרנית מכתיבה צורך לפתח אצל האנשים מודעות גלובלית, יכולת חשיבה גלובלית, שמכוונים לתפיסה הולמת של המציאות על כל ניגודיה, להבנת אחדות הקשרים הטבעיים, החברתיים, הכלכליים והטכנולוגיים בעולם ההוליסטי. כלכלת הידע צריכה להתבסס לא רק על השכלה בלתי פוסקת, אלא גם על חינוך בלתי פוסק של האדם – כאישיות וכאזרח. אף כוח לא יפתור את הבעיה הזאת, חוץ מהמדענים והמחנכים מכל רחבי העולם, אם יתאחדו כתוצאה מהכרת הבעיות הגלובליות. פיתרון הבעיות הגלובליות של האנושות, הפיכת הקשר בין האדם לטבע לקשר הרמוני והבטחת התפתחות יציבה – כל אלה בלתי אפשריים ללא הבנת ייחודיות התהליכים הגלובליים הטבעיים והטבעיים-אנושיים, על רקע האבולוציה הגלובלית (האוניברסלית) של כדור הארץ. המשבר הגלובלי הוא פחות משבר ביחסים החברתיים, הכלכליים והפוליטיים על פני כדור הארץ, ויותר משבר של האדם עצמו. המאה ה-21 צריכה להיות מאה של טכנולוגיות הומניטריות, המכוונות להתפתחות הרמונית של האדם ושל הקשרים ההדדיים שלו עם החברה ועם הטבע. הגלובליסטיקה חווה שלב של התהוות ככיוון רב-תחומי, ועולה הנושא של התפתחות מחקרים גלובליסטיים והכנסת התוצאות שלהם לתהליך החינוך וההשכלה של ההמונים. ההמונים צריכים להיות בעלי השקפת עולם רחבה, לרכוש יכולת הבנה כלל-עולמית של התהליכים המתרחשים ולנתח את הבעיות המתעוררות. התנועה העיקרית של העולם המודרני היא לכיוון של שלמות יותר ויותר גדולה, לכיוון של יצירת שוק גלובלי אחד, סביבת תקשורת אחת, ושקיפות מידע לציבור. למרות זאת, חייבים לקחת בחשבון את העובדה, שבמדינות רבות לא מתרחשת גלובליזציה, אלא להיפך, פיצול היחסים החברתיים. בהתפתחות התהליכים הגלובליים נצפית גדילה של התהוות השותפות של האנושות; חיבור האינטגרציות הכלכליות של העולם; התפתחות אמצעי התקשורת הכלל-עולמיים; התהוות התדמית של האנושות כ"אנחנו" בתודעת האנשים, על בסיס התקרבות הערכים. יחד עם מגמות האינטגרציה, קודם כל בתחום הכלכלה, מסתמנת יותר ויותר המגמה לבידול לאומי-מדיני. ובאמת, העולם הגלובלי הוא אחד, אך קיימות בו מאות מדינות עם התכונות הלאומיות-מדיניות המיוחדות שלהן, והכמות שלהן הולכת וגדלה. זה יוצר בעיה של אינטראקציה בינלאומית במסגרת הגלובליזציה – חיבור תוך שמירת התכונות האתניות, השייכות הלאומית. כדי שהלאומיות לא תהפוך ללאומנות, שמתבטאת בקיצוניות לאומית, אתנית או דתית, אלא תשתחרר מהצורות האגואיסטיות ותשלים את התרבות הכלל עולמית. הנהלה גלובלית אפקטיבית צריכה להיות בעלת מערכת משותפת של ערכים בסיסיים ומוסר כלל אנושי, שיהוו בסיס לראיית העולם הגלובלית ולחוק הגלובלי המוסמך. כדאי להחליף את הפרדיגמה האקולוגית: לוותר על התנגדות האדם לטבע ולעבור ממערכת היררכית ל"מעגלית", שבה כל המרכיבים חשובים באותה המידה. תוך סקירת שטח העבודה וייחודיות התפתחות הגלובליסטיקה, אפשר לקבוע היום שלא קיימת גישה יחידה, שמסבירה את המבנה, התפקוד וההתפתחות של המערכות, התהליכים והבעיות הגלובליות, ושמסוגלת לשמש בסיס לתחזיות. אנחנו צריכים ליצור את הגישה הזאת, תוך חיבור גישות פילוסופיות, פוליטיות, כלכליות, אקולוגיות, גלובליסטיות ואחרות. משתתפי הקונגרס מציעים להעניק לגלובליסטיקה מעמד של מדע אקדמי ולהכניס אותה למערכת החינוך בתור מקצוע, שמלמד את עקרונות ראיית העולם הגלובלית ואת היכולת לקבל החלטות ניהוליות תוך לקיחה בחשבון של השלכות בעלות אופי גלובלי".
