Human society is an intellectual and spiritual phenomenon. It is the outcome of a purposeful utilization of a universal law determining cosmic becoming, viz., the higher productivity of the division of labor. As with every instance of action, the recognition of the laws of nature is put into the service of man’s efforts to improve his conditions.”

“In conclusion, we have argued that society as family, society as hive, and society as machine all fail to capture those structural-functional aspects that allow us to grasp something essential about human civilization. My hope is that in this paper, I have identified what the best and most powerful modelmetaphor for complex society. With the society as ecosystem, we can move forward consciously with a research agenda that builds on the isomorphs we enumerated, while constraining our ethics, politics and philosophy with tentative answers to the question of whether there might be laws of human organization.”

I would add that we should all hope that human beings, who, of all of the species that have ever existed on the Planet Earth, have evolved into a relatively high stage of intelligence and of conscience, would be intelligent enough to bring this evolution to a higher level of global morality.”

“כל אם שמחה עד אין קץ למראה חיוך על פני הילד שלה. כעת מצאו המדענים הסבר מדעי לשמחה זו. מסתבר, שהחיוך של הילד מפעיל את מרכז העונג במוח, בדיוק מה שקורה בעת שימוש באלכוהול או סמים. מדענים מטקסס הצליחו לראשונה לברר מדוע חיוכו של ילד מרגיע כל-כך את ההורים. בניסוי שנערך נתנו לנשים לצפות בתמונות של ילדיהן ושל ילדים אחרים. בחלק מהתמונות הילדים חייכו. בדיקת MRI ובדיקות דם הורו על כך שכאשר האם צופה בתמונה של הילד שלה מחייך, מופרש אל דמה הורמון הדופמין. לא נצפתה תגובה דומה לחיוך של ילדים אחרים. הפרשת הדופמין היא שגרמה להרגשת השמחה אצל האם. זהו הורמון שמופרש בעת הרגשת תענוג. הוא מופרש גם בעת שימוש באלכוהול או סמים.”
