Description: Building society as a balanced ecosystem.
“In conclusion, we have argued that society as family, society as hive, and society as machine all fail to capture those structural-functional aspects that allow us to grasp something essential about human civilization. My hope is that in this paper, I have identified what the best and most powerful modelmetaphor for complex society. With the society as ecosystem, we can move forward consciously with a research agenda that builds on the isomorphs we enumerated, while constraining our ethics, politics and philosophy with tentative answers to the question of whether there might be laws of human organization.”

Description: Evolution, attaining new levels of existence.
“The different branches of science combine to demonstrate that the universe in its entirety can be regarded as one gigantic process, a process of becoming, of attaining new levels of existence and organization, which can properly be called a genesis or an evolution.”

Description: The development of the human species throughout evolution will bring us to a higher level of existence.
“Albert Einstein (1879-1955) once said "We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive." I certainly agree. I would add that we should all hope that human beings, who, of all of the species that have ever existed on the Planet Earth, have evolved into a relatively high stage of intelligence and of conscience, would be intelligent enough to bring this evolution to a higher level of global morality.”

Description: Society can cause shame in those who contribute to it and pride in those who do.
“We concluded from this research that among economics majors in the lab and hunter-gatherers in the forest, contributing to the success of a joint project for the benefit of one's group, even at a personal cost, evokes feelings of satisfaction and pride. Failing to do so is often a source of shame or guilt. Cooperation thus is sustained by altruistic motivations that induce people to help others when not helping would result in their having higher fitness or other material rewards.”

Field of reference: Education
Description: Giving a child a sense of purpose is crucial to their well-being.
“Developing positive identities touches on some fundamental questions facing every young child: ‘Who am I?’, ‘Is it OK to be who I am?’ and ‘What is my place in this world?’ Answering these questions is crucial to every child’s well-being, or in everyday language to ‘feeling good’ and ‘being happy.”
