Description: The future demands unity above differences

“The future lies with more globalization, not less - more co-operation, more interaction between peoples and cultures, and even greater sharing of responsibilities and interests.  It is “unity in our global diversity”  — or to quote the Indonesia's national motto, “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika” — that we need today.

Description: Our interdependence forces us to cooperate on a global scale

“We are the first generation which is in a position to do this. Combine the power of a global ethic with the power of our ability to communicate and organize globally, with the challenges that we now face, most of which are global in their nature. Climate change cannot be solved in one country, but has got to be solved by the world working together. A financial crisis, just as we have seen, could not be solved by America alone or Europe alone; it needed the world to work together. Take the problems of security and terrorism and, equally, the problem of human rights and development: they cannot be solved by Africa alone; they cannot be solved by America or Europe alone. We cannot solve these problems unless we work together. So the great project of our generation, it seems to me, is to build for the first time, out of a global ethic and our global ability to communicate and organize together, a truly global society, built on that ethic but with institutions that can serve that global society and make for a different future.

Description: We need a whole new order, including a new financial system, and this reinvention requires global awarness and cooperation

“A whole new world order, including a new financial order and rules, involving international cooperation, is imperative. A new system of rules, institutions, and procedures regulating the international monetary system, as the “Bretton Woods” system did in 1944, may be a starting point. The United State’s position, as a current economic and political Superpower, may be threatened if a true global effort is not initiated.  The alternative is terrifying, because a superpower losing both political and economic governance, with military dominance, is a dangerous situation. Although President Obama has been actively trying to enlist international cooperation, resistance is still at large. The main culprit, by far, is the collective lack of awareness that a broken system is amongst us. Reinvention of any system requires all hands on deck.  The world’s future seriously depends on global awareness and cooperation.

Description: Comparing ourselves to society is a pervasive social phenomenon that affects our core psychological being

“Two decades of research have shown that social comparisons are more complex and that people play a more active role in making use of comparison information than initially thought. Concepts from social cognition, emotion research, cognitive psychology, self theory, and the study of naturalistic experience have yielded insights into the process of social comparison and the motives that underlie it. Comparing the self with others, either intentionally or unintentionally, is a pervasive social phenomenon. Perceptions of relative standing can influence many outcomes, including a person’s self-concept, level of aspiration, and feelings of wellbeing (i.e., subjective well-being).”

Description: A strictly biological approach to operationalizing the concept of basic needs, which is referred to as the "Survival Indicators" paradigm.

“Categorical distinctions can be drawn between (a) primary needs, (b) instrumental needs, (c) perceived needs, (d) dependencies and (e) wants, although in practice these categories often overlap. it is suggested that a basic needs paradigm could provide an analytical tool (a "bio-logic") for examining more closely the relationship between our social, economic and political behaviors and institutions and their survival consequences, as well as providing a predictive tool of some importance.”
