Description: Cut the working week to a maximum of 20 hours, urge top economists.

“Are we just living to work, and working to earn, and earning to consume?”

“If everyone worked fewer hours – say, 20 or so a week – there would be: More jobs to go around, Employees could spend more time with their families, and Energy-hungry excess consumption would be curbed.” "The government should legislate a maximum working week."

Field of reference: Economics, Sociology

Description: Quote by nobel prize and oscar winning critic/writer  --- The stability of society relies on fair distribution of labor and wealth.

"Every serious student of the subject knows that the stability of a civilisation depends finally on the wisdom with which it distributes its wealth and allots its burdens of labour, and on the veracity of the instruction it provides for its children. We do not distribute the wealth at all: we throw it into the streets to be scrambled for by the strongest and the greediest who will stoop to such scrambling, after handing the lion’s share to the professional robbers politely called owners. We cram our children with lies, and punish anyone who tries to enlighten them. Our remedies for the consequences of our folly are tariffs, inflation, wars, vivisections and inoculations – vengeance, violences, black magic."

Description: Economics must change fundamentally. Creativity, cumulative learning, cultural values all play important interdependent roles in evolutionary change.

"Conventional economics cannot be simply augmented with biological or evolutionary metaphors; economic science must undergo a fundamental paradigm shift to recast the modern world in bioeconomic terms as a collective survival enterprise incorporating both cooperative and competitive strategies."

Description: Effects from economic crisis causing people to re-evaluate their values

"The recession impacts leisure activities from another angle. Consumers’ dematerialization has a positive impact on leisure. As stuff takes on less importance, people are finding they have more room in their lives for experiences. They are valuing objects less and experiences and people more.

People’s growing desire for experiences brings with it not only a desire to strengthen their bonds and enjoy good times with family and friends, but also a desire for knowledge and self-improvement".
